    How does Invisalign® work?

Invisalign® aligners are made from clear flexible plastic. They fit snugly over your teeth and apply a steady pressure which moves your teeth over time.

Your very first aligner will fit your original teeth almost perfectly, but the positions of the teeth on each successive aligner will be a bit straighter than those of the last aligner. Once your teeth have shifted enough (just a fraction of a millimetre) to match the current set of upper and lower aligners, you will switch to a new set.

You will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks. The number of sets you need depends on how complex your case is. On average, most Invisalign® treatment cases are completed within 12 to 18 months. If you have a very mild case, then you may finish your treatment within just six months.

    Invisalign® for all ages

Many adults who straighten their teeth with Invisalign® love how discreet and convenient it is. But did you know that Invisalign® also works well for kids? Some young people love the no-metal look of clear aligners. If your child is interested in Invisalign, bring them to meet our Invisalign® dentist to find out if this treatment is right for them.

Your Invisalign® treatment at The Mount

To get Invisalign® treatment, you have to visit a dentist who has been trained to prescribe Invisalign® to their patients. We work with our sister practice Trinity House Orthodontics to offer this cutting-edge treatment, provided by specialist orthodontist Dr Dirk Schuth.

With over 15 years of extensive experience in the field of orthodontic treatment, and as a Diamond Provider, he has already completed hundreds of successful Invisalign® cases.

      Your treatment process

      Step 1

You will first have a consultation where we will help you find out whether Invisalign® or another type of orthodontic treatment is right for you.

      1
      2

      Step 2

We will take a digital scan of your teeth using the iTero Element® scanner. This technology was developed by Invisalign, and it allows us to capture a three-dimensional image of your teeth.

      Step 3

We will upload your scan to the computer program which can then render an example of what your teeth will look like when your Invisalign® treatment is finished. Most importantly, this detailed scan ensures that your custom-made aligners are as accurate as possible.

      3
      4

      Step 4

Using the Invisalign® tooth movement software, we will generate an estimate of the length of your treatment. We will send the treatment information to the Invisalign® company, and the company will send us the custom trays to give to you.

      Step 5

We will give you your Invisalign® aligners, check the fit of your first set, and show you how to put them in and remove them with ease.

      5

      Your Invisalign® journey begins!

At this point, your Invisalign® journey begins! You will wear your aligners for 22 hours every day until your teeth are in even alignment. We will ask you to come back once every one or two months to check on your progress and supply you with more aligners, as needed. We even have technology that allows us to monitor your treatment remotely.

Once your treatment is finished, we will recommend that you wear a custom retainer to keep your teeth in their new positions for a lifetime.

Remote treatment monitoring for Invisalign® with Dental Monitoring

We can track your Invisalign® progress remotely with the help of an app called ‘Dental Monitoring’.

This app is easy to use; all you have to do is send us pictures of your smile so that we can check on the progress of your Invisalign® treatment. Instead of visiting us for frequent in-surgery check-ups, you can have your teeth evaluated from the comfort and privacy of your own home. After assessing your progress, we will send you instructions through the app’s secure messaging platform to let you know the next step in your treatment journey.

Dental Monitoring is just one more way we strive to offer you a superior treatment experience here at The Mount!

      Is Invisalign® right for you?

If you already know that you need orthodontic treatment, then you are likely a great candidate for Invisalign. When you visit us for an Invisalign® consultation, we will help you weigh the pros and cons of the treatment.

      Pros of Invisalign®

      Effective

With almost 30 years of experience, there is no question that Invisalign® orthodontic technology works.

      Convenient

Invisalign® aligners are removable, and this makes them easy to clean. It also makes it easy for you to maintain a good oral hygiene routine of brushing and flossing.

      Discreet

No one has to know that you are straightening your teeth with Invisalign® unless you tell them.

      Comfortable

There are no sharp metal bits on clear aligners.

      Eat what you like

You will remove your Invisalign® aligners for meals, so you can eat whatever you please without worrying that you will damage your aligners.

      Shorter and fewer appointments

It takes just minutes for our team to evaluate the progress of your Invisalign® treatment, and we can even do this remotely.

      Cons of Invisalign®

      May impact your speech

Clear aligners are very thin, but you will still sense that your teeth feel a bit thicker than normal. This extra layer of subtle bulk may initially affect the way you talk. However, you will quickly get used to the sensation and can continue speaking normally while wearing Invisalign®.

      Requires self-discipline

You must keep your Invisalign® aligners on your teeth for 22 hours every day. This means you should only take them out to eat and to brush and floss your teeth. Invisalign® is not as effective for individuals who lack the self-discipline required to make a success of the treatment by wearing their aligners as directed.

      Easy to lose

Removable aligners are convenient, but they are also easy to misplace. For example, if you wrap your Invisalign® aligners in a napkin at mealtime, someone might accidentally toss them out. Keeping your aligners in a secure case when you are not wearing them is the best way to avoid losing them.

      The cost of Invisalign®

We offer two tiers of Invisalign® treatment at The Mount: Invisalign® Lite and Invisalign® Full.

The original treatment, Invisalign® Full, addresses a wide range of orthodontic issues and is recommended for cases that could take a year or more to correct. Invisalign® Lite is best for very mild cases, and treatment usually lasts no longer than six months.

      • Invisalign® Lite starts at £2,600
      • Invisalign® Full starts at £3,300 for kids and teens and £3,950 for adults over the age of 18

We offer discounts for upfront payment in full, and we can arrange payment in monthly instalments as low as £100 per month, after an initial deposit.

For more cost details and information on financing for Invisalign, please see our costs page.

Getting the most out of Invisalign®

Invisalign® is a fantastic orthodontic solution in and of itself. But the results you achieve with this treatment mainly depend on you.

Invisalign® only works if you wear the aligners as directed for 22 hours each day. If you do not wear the aligners long enough, then your treatment will take much longer than planned.

It is also extra important to keep your teeth and gums clean during Invisalign® treatment. The aligners can trap bacteria and food residue in your mouth for hours at a time, and this can lead to gum inflammation, bad breath and cavities. You can keep your mouth healthy during aligner treatment by:

      • Cleaning your Invisalign® aligners daily
      • Brushing at least twice a day
      • Flossing every day

You will also get the most out of your Invisalign® treatment if you follow it up by wearing an orthodontic retainer. This should prevent your teeth from shifting into their old positions.

As long as you closely follow the instructions we give you concerning your Invisalign® treatment, you will enjoy watching the transformation of your smile!

        Questions about your treatment journey

        • Does InvisalignⓇ work as well as braces?

Both InvisalignⓇ and traditional metal braces are effective treatment options for straightening teeth. They each have their pros and cons, and it is important to weigh both options carefully when determining which treatment is right for you. The best way to do that is to schedule a consultation with a doctor who provides both InvisalignⓇ and other orthodontic solutions.

        • Can you eat while wearing Invisalign® aligners?

No, you should not eat anything while wearing Invisalign® aligners. Chewing on your aligners can stain and even damage them. Food that gets trapped between your teeth and aligners can increase your risk of tooth decay. Plain water is the only thing you should consume while your aligners are in. For all other meals, snacks and beverages, remove your aligners before eating.

        • Can my child have treatment with Invisalign

Yes, as InvisalignⓇ is an effective orthodontic solution for young people, it is worth discussing with your child’s dentist. Some children and teenagers who need orthodontic treatment have difficulty remembering to wear their clear aligners as often as they should. With your child’s abilities, circumstances and preferences in mind, talk with your child’s dentist to find out which orthodontic treatment is best for them.

        • Will InvisalignⓇ work if I already have dental restorations?

Yes, you can still wear InvisalignⓇ even if you have already had dental work done. The aligners will not harm your existing restorations, nor will crowns and fillings affect the fit of your aligner. You can still straighten teeth that have been repaired in the past. In fact, if you need any dental repairs, it is usually best to get those done before beginning a course of orthodontic treatment. Other types of restorations like bridges and dental implants can complicate orthodontic treatment, however. If you have bridgework or implants, your dentist will let you know if InvisalignⓇ is still an option for you.

        • I’ve already had orthodontic treatment in the past. Can I still get Invisalign?

You can absolutely still get Invisalign! Clear aligner treatment is very successful for individuals who simply need to treat a case of orthodontic relapse.

        • Can I get InvisalignⓇ as part of my smile makeover?

If having straighter teeth is your goal, then InvisalignⓇ can certainly be a part of your treatment plan. A smile makeover includes any and all treatments you need to get the smile of your dreams. InvisalignⓇ can help you to get a more even smile that you can be proud of.

Fantastic atmosphere and staff that put you at your ease, even for the most difficult procedures.
